There's a new kind of pairing event on the scene For every red, white or bubbly you sip, there's an expertly selected scent to sniff, too. What meshes more beautifully then wine and fragrance? They even share a language: Bouquet, Fruitiness, finish and experts from both fields say the qualities you like in a wine turn out to be not far off from the ones you'll like in a fragrance. Both wine and perfume have transformative powers. A great wine can evoke a place, even a particular piece of ground, just as a great perfume can transform a person into a bouquet of flowers or the sea. Both stir conversation and debate and even stir strong emotions. And I guess that's my final answer to the question of whether wine and perfume can be enjoyed together: only in very small amounts. Or, as Fabrice Penot said to me,

"Perfume, like wine, is beautiful when you know how to stop."
